Description

Our Freeze Dried Sardine treats are the perfect mid-afternoon snack.

Sardines are loaded with a variety of essential vitamins, and minerals. Namely Calcium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Iron, magnesium, zinc, Iodine, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, and Choline.

Sardines are a great source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids, and more specifically EPA and DHA. These are the omega 3s we should all seek to add more of to our dogs diets as most pet foods have plenty of ALA, but the conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is very low in dogs and almost non existent in cats.

The maximum omega 6 to omega 3 ratio for dog food is 30 to 1. The NRC’S recommendation is a minimum of 2.6 to 1 and 26 to 1 while most recommendations are below 10 to 1.

When listed on the pet food bag it is usually the total amount of Omega 3.

Sardines also provide a wide range of Amino Acids, the building blocks of protein. Sardines are an extremely valuable source of Leucine, Lysine, and Arginine. Sardines also contain a significant amount of Taurine. Sardines have been found to have around 118 mg per 100 grams, or 3.53 Ounces.

Sardines are also a rich source of Coenzyme Q10 also known as CoQ10, or Ubiquinol. CoQ10 has been used to help treat a variety of heart conditions.

One of the Great benefits of Sardines, is that because they are a smaller fish, and lower on the food chain they contain less mercury than larger fish and those higher up in the food chain.

Sardines are a great way to supplement your pet’s diets. Unfortunately, most store bought sardines are soaked in oil, or water with salt. Several Companies use farm-raised Sardines. We get our Sardines straight from Fishing Companies Located in Southern California.

Sardines are also a great option to hide pills. Many pets don’t like pill pockets. Peanut butter is commonly used to hide pills but is also extremely high in calories. Cheese also has a downside. Our Freeze Dried Sardines are a great and healthy way to sneak them their pill without them thinking twice about eating it. Simply Chop the Sardines into multiple pieces and place the pill in the middle, and watch your dog take their medication with no hesitation.

The size of the sardines can vary greatly depending on season.

For Dogs under 50lbs we recommend breaking the sardine in half and feeding on different days.

Treats should never make up more than 10% of daily calories. That is why we recommend also recommend rotating between different treats. Whether they are muscle meats or organs. Whether they come from the land or sea. Whether it is cattle, poultry or wild game. They all offer different levels and percentages of important vitamins, minerals, Types of fats, and Amino Acids. By rotating between treats you ensure your furry friends get a wider range of nutrients.
